8A - Solving the Problem
I touched on the solution to my problem in my last post. The problem I identified was dog walkers with reactive dogs running into other dog walkers and having to deal with that situation. When you have a reactive dog that means they see another dog and they begin barking, lunging and pulling toward the dog and usually not in a friendly way. Gainesville is a very populated area and many people have dogs so it's almost impossible not to run into other dogs when you're on a walk. My opportunity is creating an app that alerts a dog walker when another dog walker is approaching. This way they can avoid the situation and avoid the anxiety and frustration that comes with it.
I wonder if instead of creating an app from scratch, you could add on to an existing app that is already used every day. For example, Waze is used daily for directions while driving and walking, and it already has options built in to report potential issues/disturbances such as a car stopped on the side of the road or debris in the road. I wonder if you could look at partnering with Waze to create a subsection of the app for animal walkers where you can report locations of reactive dogs while on a walk.
ReplyDeleteHey Savanna,
ReplyDeleteI think this is an incredible idea because as a dog owner myself, I often encounter vicious dogs while taking my dog for a walk. Like the person above me commented, a specific dog walking app exists called "Wag". Although this is an app where you let your dog be walked by others when you are unable, maybe they could add this as a feature so dog walkers also ensure the safety of your animal when they aren't around. Regardless, I think this would be a great idea to combat the anxiety that comes with other animals approaching your pet.
